Forest Park
active 1 year, 11 months agoThe Forest Park area was settled in the 1820′s and incorporated in August 1908 as “Astor”, Georgia. Astor served as a wood and water stop for the Central of Georgia railroad, for steam locomotive trains traveling in and out of Atlanta. Early settlers were primarily farming families with an influx or railroad employees as the two became an important railroad point. Developed as a “wood and water stop” known as “Stump Town”, probably from the stumps left as trees were cut to provide fuel for the passenger and freight trains going in and out of Atlanta, Forest Park has developed into one of the largest cities in Clayton County.
